Good jewelry rewards good care. Here is how to make your P'Vatore pieces last beautifully for decades.
The Golden Rule: Last On, First Off
Put your jewelry on last when getting ready, and take it off first when coming home. Perfume, lotion, hairspray, and makeup are the biggest enemies of gold plating and pearls. Give your products a minute to settle on your skin before clasping the necklace.
Daily Care By Material
Gold Plated Pieces
To preserve your gold plated pieces, avoid water where possible by removing them before showers, swimming pools, and the sea. You should also wipe them gently with a soft cloth, such as a microfibre or a clean cotton cloth, after wearing. Store them flat in the provided pouch, away from other jewelry. Lastly, polish them once a month with a dedicated jewelry cloth to lift any dullness.
Freshwater Pearls
Pearls are organic and porous, meaning they absolutely hate chemicals. You should never spray perfume on a neck already wearing a pearl necklace. Wipe them with a soft, barely damp cloth after wearing and dry immediately. Always store them flat rather than hanging, so the silk or cotton thread does not stretch. If threaded, have the thread refreshed by a jeweler every few years of regular wear.
Sterling Silver
Silver tarnishes naturally, which is oxidation rather than damage. Light tarnish lifts with a silver polishing cloth in seconds. Store your pieces in the provided anti tarnish pouch when they are not being worn. Wearing silver often actually slows tarnishing, as your skin helps polish it naturally.
Natural Gemstones
Most gemstones are harder than gold but still dislike harsh chemicals. Wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. You should never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, as these can damage many stones. Store each piece separately to avoid scratches from harder stones.
What To Avoid
Avoid chlorine pools and hot tubs, as this is the single fastest way to ruin plating. Salt water is also harmful, as it rinses the warmth out of gold and dries out pearls. Keep your rings away from bleach and household cleaners, and take them off before doing dishes or cleaning. You should also avoid sleeping in jewelry to prevent bending, snagging, and skin oil build-up overnight. Lastly, avoid wearing jewelry to the gym, as sweat, weights, and friction shorten the life of every piece.
Travel Tips
Keep a small zip pouch with a soft cloth and your everyday pieces. Pack earrings in a pill organiser. Pearls and delicate chains go inside folded clothing to avoid impact. Never check jewelry in hold luggage.
